What happens
Water Commissioner Gildersleeve spends a Saturday at home with his family while his nephew Bronco, expecting his first child, grows increasingly nervous. Bronco's wife Marjorie keeps rearranging the furniture, which Bronco's grandmother claimed meant the baby was near, and the household frets over her. Gildersleeve suggests Bronco join the Jolly Boys club for an evening out to ease his nerves. The Great Gildersleeve, starring Harold Peary, aired on NBC on January 17, 1951, and this episode is led by Willard Waterman, with Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle in the cast.
The Gildersleeve household and the Jolly Boys club in the town of Summerfield, on a Saturday in January.
Characters: Great Gildersleeve, Bronco, Marjorie, Bertie, Leroy, Floyd Munson, Peavey, Judge Hooker
Listen for: Bronco's nervous phone calls home from the Jolly Boys club, and Bertie's remarks about the furniture-moving superstition.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
