What happens

Gildersleeve, the water commissioner in The Great Gildersleeve, learns that his niece Marjorie is expecting a baby in about three weeks. He decides to throw her a baby shower, but he is told it would be more proper for the party to come from one of Marjorie's friends. He persuades Katherine, the doctor who is close to the family, to host it, and sets about arranging the guest list, which includes the rival Rumsen Bullard. Meanwhile, Leroy and Brenda decide to hold a pretend shower of their own, and the plans begin to tangle.

Springfield, in the Gildersleeve household and around town, including a baby shop window, a hospital, and Rumsen Bullard's home.

Characters: Gildersleeve, Marjorie, Bronco, Judge Hooker, Katherine, Leroy, Brenda, Rumsen Bullard

Listen for: Gildersleeve's scheming to take credit for the shower, and the mix-up between the grown-up party and the children's pretend party.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
