What happens
J.B. Kendall, a frontier gentleman writing his final report before returning to England, recalls various incidents from his travels through the American West. He shares random notes of colorful characters and events encountered during his months journeying through Montana, Fort Benton, Kansas, and other territories. These memories range from patent medicine salesmen and frontier duels to eccentric miners and amateur theatrical performances.
The American West during the frontier era, including Helena Montana, Fort Benton, Kansas, and various locations across the territories; the framing device is a train journey to New York.
Characters: J.B. Kendall, Shorthorn Tom, Mattie Silks, Katie Fulton, Court Thompson, Othello, Casio
Listen for: Colorful frontier dialogue and vernacular, including Shorthorn Tom's explanation of Western expressions and frontier speech patterns; the botched performance of Shakespeare's Othello with a Texas cowhand; and accounts of unusual frontier incidents like a duel between two women.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
