What happens

Fred Allen returns to the air on a quiet Sunday night, and the program opens with a musical offering and a quick exchange with Portland Hoffa. The show's regular features follow: Allen's Alley, where Titus Moody, Mrs. Nussbaum, Senator Claghorn and other residents answer a weekly question about a topical news item such as the sale of horse meat or fire prevention. Each neighbor gives a rambling, comic reply that ends in a series of gags. Later, the episode includes a mock tribute to medical science that spoofs a famous surgeon's operation. The broadcast was originally aired on October 6, 1946 over CBS and NBC, and the lead actors were Fred Allen, Portland Hoffa, Kenny Delmar and Minerva Pious.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
