What happens
Fred Allen returns to the air on a Sunday night in October 1946, as a radio commentator in a Washington newsroom and his colleague H.V. Kaltenborn react to the news. The broadcast is a comedy variety show in which Portland Hoffa and Kenny Delmar join Allen. Allen's Alley sketches follow, with townsfolk such as Titus Moody and Mrs. Nussbaum answering questions on topics of the day, including horse meat sales and fire prevention. Other segments include a mock medical tribute and a Columbus joke. The show is part of the Fred Allen series, which aired on CBS and NBC in the 1940s.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
