What happens

Fred Allen hosts a comedy hour in which Kenny Delmar and Portland Hoffa join him for sketches about current events and everyday life. Allen opens with jokes about the United Nations assembly and a delegate who asks for ninety million dollars, then moves to a mock-serious exchange with a Southern senator over a fire strike against high prices. A farmer describes a cow that was driven back and forth as beef prices rose and fell. A visiting editor presents Allen with an award, and the actress Tallulah Bankhead appears as a guest. Allen and Bankhead then propose a parody breakfast-table program, and its couple's chatter is punctuated by cheerful product plugs. The 1946 broadcast was carried by CBS and NBC, and its cast includes Fred Allen, Portland Hoffa, Kenny Delmar and Minerva Pious.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
