What happens

At Fort Laramie, a trooper named Patching arrives claiming to be an old friend of Captain Lee Quince from their days in the Civil War. While Quince's men speak highly of their captain, Quince seems reluctant to acknowledge Patching and orders him transferred to another company, cutting short any attempt at reunion.

Listen for: The tension between Patching's eagerness to reconnect with an old comrade and Captain Quince's cold, dismissive response; hints at a complicated shared past in the Civil War

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
