What happens
Fibber McGee and Molly, the characters of the radio comedy series of the same name, appear in this 1941 episode first broadcast on NBC Radio on October 14, 1941, with leads Harold Peary, Bill Thompson, Gale Gordon and Arthur Q. Bryan. Fibber, a careless amateur who keeps starting fires, is named acting fire commissioner by the mayor for a week while the official holding the post is away. Molly watches over him anxiously as he takes up the job. Fibber calls a meeting at the Chamber of Commerce to talk about fire prevention, and a restaurant owner named Nick brings him a practical problem from his kitchen. Fibber's new duties lead to a series of mishaps, including a test of the fire department's response time.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
