What happens

Jim Anderson and his family are awake in the middle of the night on Maple Street after young Kathy wakes from a bad dream and asks for the light to stay on. Hunger and restlessness draw everyone downstairs to the kitchen, where they eat leftovers and make odd sandwiches. Their noise and lit windows catch the attention of their neighbors, the Davises, who phone over. Soon Jim's neighbors are convinced a prowler is about, and the Andersons begin to suspect one may be real. The episode is from the series Father Knows Best, first aired on November 20, 1952, with Robert Young as Jim Anderson.

The White Frame House on Maple Street, a suburban home, around 2 a.m.

Characters: Jim Anderson, Margaret Anderson, Kathy Anderson, Bud Anderson, Betty Anderson, Ed Davis, Mrs. Davis

Listen for: Listen for Kathy's bad dream and the family's escalating late-night snacking, then the phone calls from the neighbors about a possible prowler.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
