What happens

On St. Valentine's Day in Springfield, Jim Anderson is puzzled when his family makes a fuss about the holiday and a neighborhood rumor about orchids spreads. His wife Margaret, daughter Betty, daughter Kathy and son Bud all have their own ideas about what the day should mean. The children pool their money in secret to buy a surprise, and Jim finds himself caught between his neighbors' expectations and his family's plans. This episode of Father Knows Best, a radio comedy series from 1951 starring Robert Young, follows the household through a busy day of breakfasts, errands and small misunderstandings.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
