What happens
Archie and Eddie run Duffy's Tavern, and the tavern's bar is wrecked after a fight between rival groups. Archie repeatedly claims he was not there during the brawl, yet keeps telling wilder stories about the battle he supposedly fought. When Spike McGurk, a tough customer, insults Archie and calls him a coward, Archie decides he must fight McGurk to keep his friend Finnegan's respect. Archie begins a comic training regimen, drinking carrot juice and boasting, while Eddie tries to talk him out of it. Archie then faces McGurk in the tavern, with Eddie refereeing the bout. The series is Duffy's Tavern, and this installment aired on March 23, 1949, starring Ed Gardner and Shirley Booth.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
