What happens
Archie, the tavern manager of Duffy's Tavern, is worried when Elmer Water Price, a public accountant, arrives to check the books and finds them short by fifty-seven dollars. Archie tries to bribe him with passes to a film, then turns to the quiz-show host Phil Baker, who suggests a quiz on the bar stage to cover the shortage. Archie's answers on ancient Roman history, etiquette and table manners are a comic mix of guesses and bluffing. The Duffy's Tavern radio series aired on NBC on April 27, 1951, with Ed Gardner as Archie, Shirley Booth and Charlie Cantor in the regular cast, and Florence Halop as well.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
