What happens
Archie, the manager of Duffy's Tavern, hosts Mrs. Piddleton's Lord Byron Ladies Literary Society for an open forum after their scheduled radio commentator, H.V. Kaltenborn, cannot attend. With no regular waiter on hand, Archie hires a series of unlikely applicants, including Finnegan and the music teacher Yasha Panyaslavnik, who turns out to be a poor fit for the job. Archie also has to find someone to moderate the forum. Ed Gardner leads the cast in this 1951 episode of Duffy's Tavern, a comedy series heard on CBS, NBC Blue and NBC, with Shirley Booth and Charlie Cantor also appearing.
Duffy's Tavern, New York, during a ladies' literary society meeting
Characters: Archie, Duffy, Finnegan, Mrs. Piddleton, Yasha Panyaslavnik, Miss Duffy, H.V. Kaltenborn
Listen for: Archie's attempts to find a waiter and a moderator, and the lively open forum that follows
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
