What happens
Archie, the self-important manager of Duffy's Tavern, has a date with movie star Joan Bennett and needs five dollars to pay for it. He spends much of the evening borrowing money and lining up a double date, while Miss Duffy, a longtime acquaintance of Joan, hopes to find a man of her own. Archie phones the El Morocco to reserve a table and tries to recruit dates through his friends. The episode is a comedy of schemes and small debts, with Joan Bennett playing herself as the object of Archie's ambitions.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
