What happens
Duffy's Tavern proprietor Archie and the staff plan an outing for the friendly sons of Mother McCree, and Duffy hopes to book Ozzie Nelson and Harriet Hilliard as entertainers. Archie and Eddie discuss hiring waiters, Clancy complains about his wife, and Finnegan, a self-styled singing student, tries to flirt with Harriet, who is married. Duffy phones with a booking offer, and the pair bargain over the fee while auditioning jokes, a song and a scene from Romeo and Juliet. The episode ends with the fee lowered and the couple accepting the job. This is the Duffy's Tavern singles series from May 30, 1944, starring Ed Gardner, Shirley Booth, Charlie Cantor and Florence Halop.
Duffy's Tavern, a New York bar and restaurant, with the outing planned for the friendly sons of Mother McCree
Characters: Archie, Duffy, Eddie, Clancy, Finnegan, Ozzie Nelson, Harriet Hilliard, Miss Oakie
Listen for: Archie's narration to the audience, and the haggling over the fee for the outing
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
