What happens

Duffy's Tavern owner Archie and the regulars plan a publicity stunt by giving a mock Duffy Oscar to actor Paul Lukas, who has just won a Motion Picture Academy Award. Eddie, Finnegan and Miss Duffy argue over whether Lukas deserves the honor, and Miss Duffy champions Betty Davis instead. The group seeks votes for their favorite actors at a tavern dinner, while Archie introduces Lukas to the crowd. This rebroadcast from the Duffy's Tavern series, originally aired on May 23, 1944, features Ed Gardner, Shirley Booth, Charlie Cantor and Florence Halop in the lead roles.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
