What happens
At Duffy's Tavern, Archie and Eddie entertain guest Peter Lorre, who arrives with Mrs. Carvath Wells and her talking bird, Raffles. The bird whistles and speaks, prompting playful exchanges with the staff, including Miss Duffy and Finnegan. Lorre is introduced to the regulars and to Duffy himself, who is mentioned but not seen. Later, a salami sandwich goes missing from the free lunch counter, and Archie turns the tavern into a mock courtroom to question the suspects. The series is Duffy's Tavern, and this episode was first broadcast on October 19, 1943, with Ed Gardner, Shirley Booth, Charlie Cantor and Florence Halop in the leading roles.
