What happens
Archie, the bartender-narrator at Duffy's Tavern, learns that his old schoolteacher, Miss Tompkins, is touring the city to visit former pupils, and she plans to stop by the tavern that evening. Archie and Miss Duffy prepare the place and recall Tompkins's strict methods from grammar school, including the nickname "Turkey Neck" and the lessons she gave him. When the teacher arrives, Archie tries to impress her with his reading and his tavern, and the group sets up a mock round-table discussion on international affairs. The guide follows the evening only as far as the transcript carries it.
