What happens
Archie, the manager of Duffy's Tavern, is hosting a dinner party for newspaper columnists, and the famous movie producer Cecil B. Diachi is boasting about his new picture. Archie, who has grown self-important since his success in films, plans the evening carefully and keeps calling his guests to confirm. Finnegan, Miss Duffy and Eddie help prepare the tavern, and the waiters are kept busy with small mishaps. As the hour approaches, the columnists begin sending their regrets by telephone, and Archie grows uneasy about whether anyone will come. This is the Duffy's Tavern series, originally broadcast on October 12, 1951, with Ed Gardner in the lead.

Listen for: Archie's phone calls with the columnists as the dinner guests fail to arrive
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
