What happens
Archie, the manager of Duffy's Tavern, is worried because the place is nearly empty, and he decides a press agent could bring customers back. Dave Hossinger, a smooth-talking swindler and old acquaintance of Eddie, turns up looking for a fresh start, and Archie hires him for the job. Dave proposes a publicity stunt involving the tavern's old roulette wheel and an opera singer, Merrick Windheim, who is supposed to lose everything at the table and shoot himself. Archie gets his photographer friend Charlie ready for the picture. The Duffy's Tavern series, broadcast on CBS, NBC Blue and NBC, features Ed Gardner and Shirley Booth in the lead roles, and this 1945 episode is shown here from the original air date of June 1, 1945.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
