What happens

Steve Mitchell, a government agent posing as a foreign correspondent, arrives in Sicily to investigate the theft of relief supplies from a warehouse of the Thropp Foundation. Working for the commissioner, Steve meets the foundation's office head, Mr. Archer, and learns that a former employee, Paul Wainwright, was recently fired. Contacts in the city, including Emilio Donati, point him toward the bandit Lorenzo, whose reputation makes him an obvious suspect. Steve is drawn into a dangerous journey to Lorenzo's mountain camp, where loyalties and alliances are tested. The series is Dangerous Assignment, broadcast on NBC in 1949 and starring Brian Donlevy.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
