What happens

George and Gracie Burns, a married couple, are forced to find new lodgings after selling their house and having no place to live. Gracie searches for rooms and finds a room for herself at the YWCA, while George is sent to the YMCA, leaving the pair living on opposite sides of town. The pair then conspire to meet, with Gracie posing as an innocent single woman and George pretending to be her father's friend, while the building staff and a chaperone complicate their efforts. The transcript breaks off during this scheme, and the episode is a comedy of misunderstandings about the couple's living arrangements. Burns and Allen is the series, first broadcast on May 8, 1947 on CBS and NBC Radio, with Gracie Allen, Bea Benaderet, Meredith Willson and Mel Blanc in the cast.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
