What happens
Gracie Allen is sent to New York to cover the Joe Louis and Billy Conn championship fight for her newspaper column, and George Burns plans to go with her. The couple must first find someone to host their Maxwell House Coffee Time radio program over the summer. Their friend Bill Goodwin suggests a comedian, but the lead proves unpromising. Radio Life magazine then names Meredith Wilson's music the program's award-winner, and Meredith is chosen to take over the summer show. The episode is a light comedy about a couple's trip and the arrangements they make for their program in their absence, with the Burns and Allen radio series and its sponsor's commercials woven through it.
The Burns home, and the radio studio, in the spring of 1946, as the couple prepares to travel to New York.
Characters: Gracie Allen, George Burns, Bill Goodwin, Meredith Wilson, Ben Gage, Mel Blanc, Mr. Postman
Listen for: Gracie's sports-betting exchange with George, and the postman's offer to host the summer show.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
