What happens
George Burns and Gracie Allen are preparing for Christmas at home when Gracie signs George up to play Santa Claus in a church pageant he considers beneath him. George refuses, and Gracie tries to recruit the actor Charles Laughton and his wife Elsa Lanchester to persuade him. Gracie and Elsa talk about their husbands, while the men swap complaints about their wives and plan to assert themselves. The 1943 CBS and NBC broadcast of Burns and Allen features the show's regular cast along with guests and a sponsor's commercial break.
The Burns house at Christmastime, plus the Laughton home and a nearby cigar store, in Hollywood.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
