What happens

George Burns and Gracie Allen prepare for a surprise party for Gracie's grandfather, who is turning 92. George plans to keep the old man away from the house until evening, but the grandfather keeps getting into mischief around the studio, flirting with stars and making trouble for the staff. Meanwhile the orchestra, led by Artie Shaw, argues with the guitarist Senor Lee, and the sound man Simon complains about his job. Gracie also sends Betsy on the telephone a set of confused instructions for the party. The program is a Burns and Allen show from 1940, broadcast on CBS and NBC Radio, with Gracie Allen and George Burns in the leads, supported by Bea Benaderet, Meredith Willson and Mel Blanc.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
