What happens
Gracie Allen returns from the beauty shop and tells George Burns about a new magazine and a library visit before she picks up Dale Carnegie's book on worry. She applies its advice to her friends and to her own household, and each attempt to help someone brings new trouble. Announcer Bill Goodwin is left shaken, and Gracie's efforts keep spreading into other people's lives. The episode is from the Burns and Allen series, originally aired January 18, 1950, on CBS and NBC Radio, with Gracie Allen, Bea Benaderet, Meredith Willson and Mel Blanc in the cast.
The Burns home in Hollywood, a beauty shop called Francois, the public library, and the Martins' house.
Characters: Gracie Allen, George Burns, Bill Goodwin, Blanche Martin, Harry Martin, Bessie
Listen for: Gracie's literal-minded reading of Dale Carnegie's advice and George's reactions to her misunderstandings.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
