What happens
Gracie Allen wants to join Mrs. Randolph's exclusive literary club, so she begins urging George Burns to give up his cowboy love tales and read the classics. George tries to adopt a bookish manner, but his cowboy talk keeps slipping out. Bill Goodwin is seen taking up Shakespeare, and Meredith Willson is drawn into the cowboy conversation. Gracie then prepares the house with literary books for Mrs. Randolph's visit, and the conversation turns to whether the Burns family can claim a link to the poet Robert Burns. The episode is from the Burns and Allen series, first broadcast on April 11, 1946, and the lead actors are Gracie Allen and George Burns.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
