What happens

George Burns and Gracie Allen struggle to keep their household running after they lose their maid, and George rejects Gracie's plan to have their Beverly Hills club members take turns being one another's servants. Gracie quietly installs her friend Tootsie in the kitchen as a cook, with predictably messy results. George interviews a parade of job applicants who each present their own odd difficulties. Bill Goodwin, a neighbor, offers to find help through an employment agency, and a wager over an expensive hat adds some friendly rivalry between George and Bill. The episode is a light comedy about domestic mishaps and the couple's stubborn disagreements over how to solve them. It is broadcast on CBS and NBC Radio, and its lead actors include Gracie Allen, Bea Benaderet, Meredith Willson and Mel Blanc.

The Burns home in Beverly Hills, in the morning and later the day, while the household searches for and tries out new help.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
