What happens
Gracie Allen, in Burns and Allen, has joined a lonely hearts club and sent her picture to a man who calls himself Big Jake, a rancher from Wyoming. When Big Jake arrives at the Burns home, George Burns and Bill Goodwin, Gracie's friend, try to sort out the confusion, since Gracie is not the woman he thinks he is writing to. Her friend Tootsie Sagwell is the one who has been corresponding with him. The sponsor's name is only one part of the broadcast, and the story is told in comic exchanges between the characters. Burns and Allen aired on CBS and NBC Radio, and this episode is from April 6, 1943, with Gracie Allen, Bea Benaderet, Meredith Willson and Mel Blanc in the cast.

Listen for: Big Jake's arrival at the Burns home and the confusion over who Gracie is writing to
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
