What happens
George Burns and Gracie Allen present a comedy episode first broadcast on February 12, 1948, on CBS and NBC Radio. Gracie learns that her neighbor Kay Kyser has a new baby and needs a sitter so he and his wife can attend a dinner with their sponsor. Gracie volunteers George, who has no experience with infants and is reluctant to take on the job. Friends and visitors drop in, including Meredith Willson, Bill Goodwin, and a Texan named Mr. Judson, while a professional babysitter arrives with his own peculiar ideas about the work. The episode is a Maxwell House coffee sponsored program featuring the Maxwell House Orchestra.
Gracie and George's home and a cornered drugstore, with Kay Kyser's house as the place where the babysitting takes place.
Characters: Gracie Allen, George Burns, Kay Kyser, Meredith Willson, Bill Goodwin, Mr. Judson, Toby Reed
Listen for: Gracie's logic-twisting remarks about babysitting and George's reluctant attempts to care for the infant, with the Maxwell House commercials between scenes.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
