What happens
Broadway detective work begins when Tony Blair, who runs a dance studio, reports that one of his young dancers, Sylvia Douglas, fears she will be killed by a man named Peter Churo, a soldier she met in England. The investigation leads from Churo, who makes wooden toys and harbors feelings for Sylvia, to Johnny Moore, a longshoreman at the docks who has recently met and become involved with the dancer.
New York City, primarily on Broadway and the East River docks at Pier 16
Characters: Tony Blair, Sylvia Douglas, Peter Churo, Johnny Moore, Danny Clover
Listen for: The poetic, hard-boiled narration that captures the atmosphere of the city streets and docks; the tense interrogations that gradually reveal the complicated relationships surrounding Sylvia Douglas.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
