What happens
Detective Danny Clover investigates the murder of Gordon Merrick, a theatrical backer shot in the back in his penthouse apartment. Merrick had called Carol Royce, an actress he was in love with, to invite her for a champagne supper, but she refused and stayed home. The trail leads to Vic Kane, a man Carol loves, whose gun goes missing and whose alibi proves questionable.
New York City on a rainy night, including a penthouse apartment on the 40th floor, Carol Royce's home, and a rooming house on Third Avenue
Characters: Danny Clover, Gordon Merrick, Carol Royce, Vic Kane
Listen for: The moody jazz-inflected narration describing the rain-soaked streets of Broadway and the interplay between the romantic triangle that surrounds the murder
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
