Detective Danny Clover responds to an anonymous call reporting a murder at the 18th Hotel. He finds Alice Mayo dead in her apartment, and her husband Fred reveals that Alice had recently befriended a man named Ernie Britt at a local dance club. Clover begins investigating Ernie's whereabouts, discovering that Ernie made preparations that evening—ordering flowers and getting groomed—suggesting he had a significant appointment at nine o'clock.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
