What happens

Boston Blackie is asked to meet and look after Alice Manleder, a young woman arriving in New York from San Francisco. When Blackie arrives at the hotel, he discovers that someone else has already met Alice and taken her away. Shortly after, Blackie finds Alice dead in her hotel room—and the murder weapon is his own gun, which he lost. Inspector Faraday arrives and arrests Blackie as the prime suspect, but Blackie escapes custody to prove his innocence and find the real Alice.

New York City, primarily the Ashley Hotel, police headquarters, and various locations throughout the city.
