About Boomer Mix

Boomer Mix is a free daily baby boomer nostalgia podcast and 24/7 stream from Stupid Potato: fifteen minutes a day of vintage TV commercials, classic TV theme songs, retro jingles, cereal and toy ads and old network promos from 1950 to 1974. Your host is Skip Delaney, a warm, wisecracking former AM radio disc jockey. It is made for the generation that grew up with Howdy Doody, drive-ins and the space race, and for anyone curious about what the family TV sounded like in the 50s, 60s and early 70s.

The 1950s and 60s were when television took over the American living room, and the commercials became as memorable as the shows. Brylcreem promised "a little dab'll do ya." Fred and Wilma Flintstone turned up in ads for the show's early sponsor, Winston cigarettes. Cap'n Crunch sailed onto breakfast tables in 1963, and Alka-Seltzer's 1969 "spicy meatball" ad became a catchphrase. Boomer Mix plays those spots alongside the theme songs of I Love Lucy, Leave It to Beaver, The Twilight Zone, The Andy Griffith Show, Bewitched and Gilligan's Island.

Skip is an original character: a 73-year-old ex-Top 40 DJ from Toledo, Ohio, hosting from a wood-paneled den with a lava lamp and a wall of LPs. He tells "back in my day" stories he knows are a little tall, ribs the old ad claims ("four out of five doctors!"), and treats every listener like an old friend from the neighborhood, never grumpy and never political. Each week follows a theme that steers the lineup, so no two episodes sound alike.
