This is jazz. Our jazz scene court today is a fabulous Chicago of the roaring prohibition 1920s. The Windy City on the shores of Lake Michigan was not only the capital of the bootle-egggers but it was by way of being the capital of jazz in those days. For many of the great players had left New Orleans when the
amusement district story-ville had closed down there and they were welcome to Chicago by the crowds of pleasure-seekers and their easy money. Jasmine prospered financially and Jas prospered as a music as economic opportunity for the greatest of all the living players together.
Here's a tune that rocks Chicago in 1922 and as we're going to play it for you now it's going to rock again. That Dada Strains. That Dada Strains played in the real 1920s style. The players on this is Jas are among the greatest living Jasmine.
Those in the studio now whom you've just heard are George Bruni's trombone. Albert Nicklaus clarinet and Muggsy Spaniel Cornette, Baby Dods drums, Pops Foster bass, Joe Sullivan piano, and Danny Barker guitar. All are from this great jazz period of the 1920's which we are now celebrating, as is our guest star, the famous pianist Dan Burley who will soon play for you.
All the great New Orleans bands that were heard in Chicago in 1922, such as King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band out at the Lincoln Gardens, and the New Orleans Rhythm Kings at the Friars Inn, All of these bands played the hot fast tunes like Dada Strain, but the thorns and dancers were often calling for the slow drag blues.
So the band will now play a slow blues that the great King Oliver featured, Riverside Blues. Way down Yonder New Orleans too on that guitar. So how's the pet Cobra?
