Signal gasoline. Signal. The new gasoline you can prove is superior. The Signal Oil Company and your neighborhood signal dealer bring you another curious story by the Whistler. Tonight, death laughs last.

I am the Whistler, and I know many things, for I walk by night. I know many strange tales hidden in the hearts of men and women who have stepped into the shadows. Yes, I know the nameless terrors of which they dare not speak.

Clint Garvey had never been the same after the death of Eddie Lamar. Eddie was his closest friend they'd gone to school together, come up from the streets into the big time side by side. Their partnership had been a profitable one.

Eddie had plenty of money, there were no domestic troubles, his health was good. Clint had always seen puzzles as to why a man like Eddie would commit suicide. He just wasn't in the car. Still no matter how much pressure Clint put on the police department, their answer was always the same.

Forget it, Gravy. It was suicide. The coroner says so. The police surgeon says so, and I say so. You could still be wrong. Oh, look. It's been a year now. One year this month since we went on the case, You've gone at every angle.

We know Lamar's passed like a book. The record's filled two file drawers down at the bureau. And everything we've got says it's suicide. I want you to forget it. Because I knew Eddie Lamar better than all of you and I know he wasn't a kind of a guy who bumped himself off.

That's why. What do you know about the inside of his mind? We got a million cases just like it. Guy comes home happy, kisses his wife. Another care in our world? Bingo. Puts himself away.
