The City Of Asher

Tarzan and the Diamond of our share! In Kätland the lava beds of Tüenbaka, Tarzan and his friends are surrounded by a shadowy band of Hesseherians, the people of the savage face. Akeirou, leader of the troop, informs Tarzan that he and his companions are expected in the forbidden city of our share, by Su-10, Artep of Hesseheria.

nearing the foot of Tuanbaka, a k-ru who's well in the lead of the little party and its escort of skeleton-mast warriors is attacked by a huge flying erat or python. The rept swoops down on great bat-like wings to enfold the caharian noble in its bone-crushing coil.

I dare not shoot! That sway head is too near a k-ru! No, shoot, I know! Wait! At the eight-man speaks, the reptilian head of the wing and horror stops its sway. Its wide-fanged mouth opens, preparing strike!

In an instant Tarzan, springs his bow, puts the narrow from the piper at his back, fits it into place. The great muscles of his arm tense as he draws the deadly shaft back to its head.

An instance pause while the keen eye gauges the distance. Then the flying missiles scream to the air to embed itself squarely between the eyes of the great serpent. The writhing, sinuous black coils tremble, struggle to retain their grip.

Slowly the hideous mass relaxes, slides to the ground, inert. Inert, dead. Akei-ru lifts his arms. He turns, walks slowly back to meet Tarzan. O Tarzan, man of might. Thou hast slain this death from the sky?

Thou and I flying stick? It was Tarzan all right. Un-vater shot. Be to pull, und ere. He taught a ben-gird shot with a rifle. But to split a snake's skull with an arrow. Mmm, that brings something.
