The Frightened City

And now, transcribed tonight's presentation of radio's outstanding theatre of film. Suspense. We bring you a story of a man who returned home to find his people in the grip of a strange disease. We call it the Brighton City.

So now, starring Mr. Harry Bartell, here is tonight's suspense play, the Brighton City. Train pulled out of eastern of 120 in the afternoon. And it pulled in three minutes earlier. It was a simple thing I had to do then.

Watch across the bridge over the wall bash. Watch it grow smaller. And when it was out of sight, I was finally home. And home was pick up the barracks bag and walk up the small hill from the depot, down into Main Street on an autumn afternoon.

Turn left on Sycamore down three blocks, where the houses are painted white and there's rockers on the porches and white elm trees and November color and the far off sound of a dog barking and smell of smoldering leaves and 595 Sycamore Street up the path up the steps Janey! Janey!

This! Me! How's the baby, Chef? Oh fine! He was cheating but he's alright now. haven't seen you yet. Oh, he's beautiful. How's Johnny? Well, how's Johnny says? What? Johnny, how is he? Your husband, my brother-in-law Johnny, huh? What's the matter with you?

Didn't you get my letter? I was aboard ship the last two weeks on. Johnny's dead. Johnny went walking one night and he's dead. One night Johnny said he ain't going to walk down on the main street.

Tell me one to stop in the police station. He had somebody tell it to you. Jamie, Jamie, listen. He went out and he was walking along. Jamie! Walking along. Baby, baby. A car drove by and someone shot a gun at Johnny.
