It's like an empty box and the whole idea of this is to be a box and just be available to show the work of artists to the people of the community and anyone else who wants to come in.
The place historically has been in historical museum and what we're trying to do now is to have it being a mirror. I really conceive of the museum as a mirror for the whole community of Somerville that will reflect its history, its contemporary art scene which as you can see is incredibly vibrant and the different ethnic cultures that make up some reveal.
It's also important, you know, for the arts not to be an elite thing that people have to have some special pedigree for or a special class background or education. It's important to me that people not feel intimidated but come in here and eat and drink and chuckle with each other and see old friends and see the art in this human and community
context. It's what we're trying to do. Just walking around here for the first time, it's really nice to have an exhibit area like this in Somerville and I'm really the quality of the paintings and everything.
It's just great. I really enjoy it. Thanks. Do you have a favorite one? Actually the dog over here in out of carpeting and then of course the bar and grill funeral parlor has to be a close second.
I think it's marvelous. I'd like to see that a blend of some of the more traditional history with this current. I think it's marvelous. I was concerned that it would only go in one extreme, so this is a nice kind of mixture of what history is all about.
