When I was a boy, I used to run to his office. The guys liked to give me running to a dentist. But he was some dentist. His name was Dr. Bran. And he always let me come five minutes early, just so I could see his lab.
He let me touch things and tell me about them. I used to get so excited, I'd tell Dr. Bran I was going to be a dentist when I grew up. up, and he pat my head and say, five, five. Only he never told me how hard it was to become one. When I was older, I learned. He went to college for eight years and had to study dozens
of subjects, not just dental ones, but physiology and anatomy and bacteriology. Of course, I know that then, all I knew was that going to Dr. Brands was better than the movies. Somehow I never did become a dentist, but I'm sure glad Dr. Brand did.
What he showed me about taking care of my teeth has given me what he calls a smile for life.
