Marlene Dietrich, who was to be one of our stars this evening, will not be able to appear. Because of a very bad cold and a high temperature production on her new picture, Deathly Rides again has been stopped for the last three days.

Nevertheless, Marlene insisted she was going to appear in the Gulf Theater until last night of rehearsal when unfortunately she lost her voice completely. The minute word got round that Marlene couldn't be with us tonight, a lot of our biggest stars immediately offered to take her place.

And you know, that's the kind of spirit that has created the Gulf Screen Guild Theater. The stars consider the Gulf Theater fair theater because every single sense that gulp would ordinarily give to the stars who appear here is given instead to meet the needs of the motion picture relief fund and to build a home of the members

of the picture industry who can't take care of themselves anymore.
