Lady Astra presents the Screen Guild Players. A Screen Guild player tonight, for me and my gal. The Starling Players. This is Judy Garland. This is Gene Kelly, and this is Dick Powell. Tonight Lady Astra presents the Screen Guild Players in for me and my gal.

It's a story fondly dedicated to that branch of the show business that was called Vodeville. And it stars Judy Garland as Joe Hayden, Dick Powell Jimmy Metcalf and Jean Kelly as Harry Palmer. Back in the days when Vodville was alive, the mecca of all Vodviliens was the palace theatre on Broadway and playing the palace was the object

of all their hopes and ambitions. And Vodviliens still gather on the wide sidewalk in front of the theatre and over the traffic noises shout reminiscences of the old times when they kill the people and and laid them in the aisles.

You know, before the dim out back when there was a broken heart for every light on Broadway, the palace broke its share, too. You're gonna say that again. Remember Palmer and Hayden? Joe Hayden? Yeah. They played the heart-bakes I could try and get here.

Yeah? Yeah? We were all playing Clifton Junction, Iowa at the time they met. Harry Palmer was heading the build, the war in his comedy tramp act, and Joe Hayden was the mechanical doll in my act.

Is that the flesh actor called Jimmy Metcalfe and company in a Donald shop? That's right. And what a turkey that was. Anyway, after our first show in Clifton Junction, Joe went for a walk around town.

She stopped in a restaurant to get a cup of coffee when Harry Palmer walked up to her table and without waiting for an invitation sat down. Joe had been ignoring Harry all day, but that didn't bother Palmer.
