The Starring Players. This is Paul Ed Goddard. And this is Kay Kizer. And this is Richard Haydn. Tonight, Lady Esther presents the Screen Guild Players in one of the most uproarious comedies of this or any other year.
Samuel Goldwyn's Smash Barce. Ball of Fire. Starring Lovely, Paul Ed Goddard as the Ball of Fire. Richard Haydn as Professor Adley. And as Professor Potts. of all of fire, Richard Haydn as Professor Adley, and as Professor Potts, that great romantic lover, Kay Kaiser. Professor Bertram Potts is only 35 years old, but for the past nine years he has
been living in a dormitory with several dry as dust and gone to seed 60 year olds, seriously working at compiling and encyclopedia. Their complete isolation has given the group a marvelous opportunity to concentrate and got out of touch with the world, particularly in the case of Professor Potts, who's specialty is English. Potts had just completed his encyclopedia article on
slang when he discovered that 23 skidoo was definitely old-hand, and the article had to be rewritten. So Potts took his umbrella and rubbers and went out into the big, bad world looking for slang-age. As our play begins, Potts is safely back in the dormitory and telling his poor puddydaddies of his experiences while searching for slang.
Well, fellow professors, I just couldn't believe that I was here in the English language. I simply couldn't understand my fellow Americans. Still, Professor Potts, it must have been fun to get out of the library for the first time.
A amusement was not my goal, Professor Adley. It was merely a coincidence that the most likely places for me to over here live in slang was at a nightclub and a baseball game. Well, he won the ball game to fit the pot.
