My friend Irma, created by Cy Howard, transcribed from Hollywood, and starring Marie Wilson as Irma, and Kathy Lewis as Jane. Earth is a round planet that spins on its axis at a fast rate, and it's the law of gravity that keeps us from falling into space.
However, there are exceptions where gravity doesn't help. Take the brain of my roommate, Irma Peterson, which has been spinning for years and still hasn't fallen off into space. How many pins? How many, didn't you hear me?
I'm sorry, Jane. I'm so interested in this book I'm reading. You are reading a book? Yeah. Jane, do you know that people are what they are because of her ability and environment? Well, that's very interesting.
Yeah. Yeah, I'd find it interesting too if I knew what those two words mean. That's simple, honey. He read it to you something that you get from your parents. You mean like the time I cut the measles from my father?
No. No. I'll give you an example, honey. Okay. Well, who do you resemble in your family? Well, I think I look more like my mother, but I must have my father's hair. Why do you say that?
Well, somebody must have it. He's bald. But he's bald. That's great. What's environment? Well, environment differs from heredity and then it shows how you were affected by things around you. You understand? Naturally. Okay, give me an example.
Well, every winter on the farm in Minnesota, I would sit all day and scratch myself. Yeah. What kind of environment made you do then? Long wound underwear. Honey, environment is the thing that shapes you.
Well, that's just what I'm talking about. I was in terrible shape. I don't mean physically. What I mean is a person's character is molded by the things that surround him. For instance, you know, if the child is around people who are affectionate and kind and loving, then it'll be a happy child.
