Good evening, Creeps. Welcome to the Mystery Playhouse. To be the radio studio at 1030, you know. Miss Redford, I hate to wake you up. You have just heard the first scene of tonight's story entitled,

Challenge to the Listener, written by Hugh Pentecost, and featuring two of your favorite radio stars, Richard Woodmont, and Everett Sloan. In it you will meet two men, one the killer. The other a detective assigned to track him down.

Now the author Hugh Pentecost is deliberately avoided identifying the two men and all the facts are given. Nothing is concealed. So let's see if Hugh can spot the killer and successfully meet the... ...challenge to the listener.

Our story begins in the lobby of a summer hotel in the mountains just a short distance from New York. The desk clerk and another man are listening to the radio. And now here is the latest word on the Nancy Bradford murder.

When questioned in his office late yesterday, police commissioner had Lee had nothing new. Hey, why, why don't you turn off the radio, Burke? Because you're going to drive yourself nuts, Pop. You've got this Nancy Bradford case on the brain.

Oh, my gosh. I think you'd be interested to learn it. You will cop and all. Look, I'm not a cop on just a house stick, and you're not a cop either. You're just a desk clerk.

Now, leave them matters for the police. But Burke, I have a hot house. Excuse me, please. Oh. Yes, sir? Yes, sir. Any mail for me? Name's Hartman. Very Hartman. Let me see. H-H-N. No, sir.

Well, thank you. Paper's just coming at 11 o'clock this morning, Mr. Hartman. Complete story on the Bradford murder. Want a paper? Well, I... Special supplement. Complete story. All right, I'll take one. Here. Yes, sir. Thank you.
