That night I made up my mind to leave. I waited until Jane had put the children to bed. And I packed the wagon went out to the airport. I had my choice of destination. I picked Los Angeles.

Then I went to a booth and phoned the house. It doesn't matter Jane, I just wanted you to know that I haven't gone off to do anything foolish. It's nothing like that. I just couldn't stand it any longer, huh?

I'll have to figure out another way of living without you. That's all. I was called away in a case. I'll work out some other explanation when I had more time to think. Just don't let them know yet.

But where are you going? I'll let you know when I get there. David's telling, please. Please. Why not? You don't think you'll be lonely for long, do you? Oh, life... It's no use, Jane. Just look out for the kids.
