Lux presents Hollywood. The Lux Radio Theater brings you John Garfield, Eleanor Parker, and Dane Clark in Pride of the Marines. Ladies and gentlemen, your producer, Mr. William Keeling. Greetings from Hollywood, ladies and gentlemen.
While we prepare to usher in a new year and we hope a new and better age, I think it's not only timely but heartening for all of us to hear the real life story of a battle-scarred Marine who had to face one of the most difficult problems, walk, and leave.
What make no mistake, the play you are about to hear from Warner Brothers, Pride of the Marines is not a story of sadness, but a story of the triumphs of a great love. The picture follows closely the life of a real living person, Sergeant Al Schmidt, from my hometown of Philadelphia.
The part of Al is played by John Garfield, who enacts his original screen role. and co-starred with him also from the screencast, we had Eleanor Parker and Dean Clark, as Al's friend and sweetheart, who stand by him with unshakeable devotion.
Tonight, as we look ahead to the new year, may I thank you all for your support during the month's past, and your friendly letters and suggestions. While Lux flakes continue to brighten and lighten your daily tasks at home, rest assured that we shall continually strive to bring you the best in radio entertainment in 1946. It's curtain time and here's Act 1 of Pride of the Marines,
starring John Garfield as Al, Eleanor Parker as Ruth and Dean Clark as Lee. My name is Schmidt, Al Schmidt. Maybe you heard of me, maybe not. Anyhow, what I've got to tell you, starts back in 1941 in Philadelphia. It could have begun anywhere and what happened to me might I was living at the time, boarding with friends of mine.
