Lux presents Hollywood, the Lux Radio Theater brings you in all Chicago, starring Darville Amour, Robert Young, and John Horyak. Ladies and gentlemen, your producer, Mr. Cecil P. DeMille. Greetings from Hollywood, ladies and gentlemen.
In 1840, two Englishmen traveling in America tried to find the city of Chicago. They heard it was somewhere in the middle west, but they couldn't find a map that recognized its existence. How they made our finally, I don't know.
But the story indicates how fast and furious was the growth of this spectacular dynamic city. Tonight in the Luxe Radio Theatre, we bring you a dramatic episode from the pageant of Chicago, a story of the city's violent birth and struggle for existence, of love and treachery and sacrifice, and of America's undying face in the future.
It's the 20th century fox success in old Chicago, and our stars are as promising as our play, Robert Young, Darathil Amur, and John Hodyak. If you saw the picture, you may have been impressed as I was by the careful attention to each historical detail, from the dollar-studded floor of the pama house to the bar of soap
in Malayoliri's wash tub. And notice I say bar of soap. plagues like luck were still a long way in the future. According to early Chicago methods, you buoyed your clothes and scrubbed them with a cake of soap to get them clean.
And when you got through, you didn't have a shirt, you had a handkerchief with sleeves. I think you'll agree that the modern luxury of using luck flakes is as far removed from that grizzly experience as present-day Chicago is from the muddy village of 1834.
