Lux presents Hollywood. The Lux Radio Theatre brings you Brian Don Levy, Robert Preston, and Broderick Crawford in Wake Island. Ladies and gentlemen, your producer, Mr. Cecil B. Demille. Greetings from Hollywood, ladies and gentlemen.

A producer who couldn't find dramatic material today would be like the man who couldn't see the forest for the trees. Some of the greatest dramas in human experience are being enacted all around us in the worldwide theatre of war.

And because tomorrow is Navy Day, we re-enact for you tonight one of the simplest and strongest of all these dramas, one that's only a few months old and yet has already become immortal. It's called Wake Island and it was written not in pen and ink by some pallid playwright but in blood and fire by part of our Navy,

the United States Marines. Tonight you'll hear two of the same stars who are in the great Paramount picture, Brian Dunlevy and Robert Preston, and with them, Roderick Crawford. Bear in mind that the story you hear is a reconstruction from the cold facts of reports and dispatches of what actually happened out there on that little island in the Pacific Ocean

where a handful of American leathernecks went down fighting for a cause that we must win. We won't use their real names tonight, but history will. One of the most important services that a national theatre can render to our country is to make sure that the greatest possible number of people can hear dramas like Wake

Island to know the heroism of this nation's sons and to remember it. That is one of the duration assignments that the makers of Luxflakes have pledged this theatre to carry out, with the help and support of the national audience that is behind both the theatre and the product.
